The seventh annual Ulladulla Disabled Surfers ‘Hands on Day’ run by the South Coast Branch of the Disabled Surfers Association kicked off on Saturday, November 11.
The Ulladulla Boardriders, local school students and volunteers all donned the rashies and hit the waves to help participants enjoy the day.
Organiser Ian Picton said 30 participants and 100 volunteers turned out to hit the surf.
“We always get a good response from the members of the public at Mollymook Beach,” he said.
“The volunteers enjoy it and the participants get a smile on their face that stays on there for a number of weeks, that’s for sure.
“A lot of us take it for granted that we could go for a surf whenever we want to, but some of these people only go for a surf once a year and today’s the day.”
The event also celebrated the life of Ulladulla Boardriders Club member Carrey ‘Cazza’ Klein who died earlier this year from cancer.
A special ‘Cazza award’ was presented at the end of the day.
The next South Coast Disabled Surfers Association event will be held in Thirroul on Saturday, December 2 and Gerroa on Saturday, March 25.
