The group released a statement on Monday, November 13, which read: “We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Anglican School Corporation for working with us to enable the DA to be submitted to Council.”
The Corporation promised to lodge the DA with Shoalhaven City Council after it announced plans to close down popular local preschool, GumNuts Pre-Kinder.
This will enable the preschool to be rezoned and sold as a separate site.

The preschool and the former Shoalhaven Anglican School share the same parcel of land. However, the Save Gumnuts group negotiated with the Corporation for a DA that would split the block in two. This will allow a new owner/operator to buy the land and keep the preschool open.
An application for the re-subdivision of the land on which the preschool operates was lodged by The Anglican Schools Corporation on Wednesday, November 8.
“We are thrilled that this will enable the preschool to be rezoned and sold as a separate site. We would like to particularly thank Jack Chalmers who has worked closely with the action group to really get the DA over the line,” Save Gumnuts spokesperson Michelle Cooney said.
The group hopes that the submission of the DA by the Anglican Schools Corporation will encourage interested parties to come forward.
“Moving forward we are very hopeful that we can continue to work together with the ASC towards the positive outcome of (GumNut Pre-Kinder) remaining open whilst the purchasing process takes place,” Ms Cooney said.
