The 52-year-old’s car veered off a steep embankment on the Kings Highway over the weekend, where she became trapped.
Initial police enquiries suggest the crash happened between 8 and 9pm on Sunday, about one kilometre west of the Northangera Road intersection.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, 12 kilometres south of Braidwood, shortly after 7.45am on Monday.
They were alerted when truck driver noticed the woman’s Toyota Echo down the embankment.
The woman was trapped in the vehicle and freed by Fire & Rescue NSW.
She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to The Canberra Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.
Police said the car was travelling east when it appeared to have crossed into the other lane, run off the road, collided with trees, rolled and come to rest on the driver’s side.
The crash was the second accident to occur near Northangera within 48 hours.
On Saturday morning a 35-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after her car left the road and rolled onto its roof.
Emergency services were called to the accident at 11:30am.
The woman, who was driving, was seriously injured and taken to The Canberra Hospital, where she remains.
Her 14-year-old son, who was in the car at the time, was not injured.
Police are investigating and asked anyone who may have witnessed either accident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
