Women’s competition: Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
Div 1 Semi Finals: Clippers vs Printers. Winner: Clippers, 58 to 27.
Cath hit three shots from outside the circle in the first few minutes and Printers struggled to answer. The second quarter saw Caitlin and Emma on the Printers both playing well. Izzy from Clippers hit a great buzzer beater at half time. Strong shooting by Georgia and Keira in the second half saw the clippers to a comfortable win. Even with valiant defensive efforts from Rhianna and Emma from Printers. The game was played in good spirit throughout. Best Defender: Emma Carr. Best Passer: Keira. Top Scorer: Cath. MVP: Georgia.
Anytime Fitness vs Magic. Winner: Anytime Fitness 49 to 45.
Both teams came out strong. Good work at both ends of the court. Anytime finished the first quarter in the lead. The second quarter saw great defence from Anytime Fitness. Magic were fighting well but couldn’t close the seven point gap. Magic hit their shots early in the third and caught up. Towards the end of the quarter, Anytime Fitness took back their lead and extended it to 15 points. The final quarter was all Magic, they made a great effort to catch up and only just missed out by four points. Best Defender: Shannon. Best Passer: Ang. Top Scorer: Maddy. MVP: Leigh.
Division 2 Semi Finals: Mufflers vs Flash. Winner: Flash 10 to 29.
Defence was strong in the first quarter, keeping the score low. Hayley and Kath were standouts. The highlight of the second quarter was an impressive drive from Kath finished off with a snazzy pass to Emily, who hit a lovely basket. Talina played good defence but it was Emily’s fantastic baskets that impressed the most in the third quarter. Tiana did a nice lay up as did Kath. In the final quarter, the Mufflers staged a bit of a comeback but Kath and Krysten kept scoring baskets. Hayley had good defence, but the Flash was too good. Best Defender: Hayley. Best Passer: Talina. Top Scorer: Emily. MVP: Tiana.
Capitals vs M2M Accounting. Winner: M2M 26 to 34.
Slow start seeing defence on both teams triumph. second quarter saw Emma from M2M score some great baskets. Both teams were scoring more freely. The third quarter saw Ella from Capitals shine, M2M had good defence and maintained their lead. The final quarter was a good battle, both teams had their chances but Emma’s shooting put her team in front at the end. Best Defender/ Top Scorer: Emma. Best Passer: Cath. MVP: Ella.
Mens Competition: Thursday, May 10, 2018.
Division 1 Semi Finals: Smartline vs R&M Electrical. Winner: R& M Electrical 0 to 20 by Forfeit.
Huskies vs CJW Building. Winner: Huskies 31 to 30.
Both teams started enthusiastically with good defence, but not many baskets going in. The intensity continued in the second quarter. Some good shots by Rowan saw CJW take the lead briefly until Jett and Jacque got some quick fast breaks for the Huskies. CJW played better in the third but couldn’t take the lead with Huskies holding on by two points going into the last quarter. Three quick baskets by Corey and Jett saw huskies extend their lead to eight points. After a sensible time out from CJW. They came back recomposed and levelled the scores. The game ended in a thriller with huskies taking it out by one point. Top Scorer: Rowan. MVP: Jett.
Division 2 Semi Finals: Tigers vs That Phone Place.
Braydon went to work early and Tigers went out to an early lead. Consecutive three pointers kept That Phone Place in touch. The second quarter went to That Phone Place with some good stops and wonderful outside shooting. Tigers reclaimed the lead in the third quarter through clever drives from Braydon, Scott and Alex. But it was the glorious three pointers from Jonno, Ziad, Jesse and Cameron that kept That Phone Place in striking distance. That Phone Place came out six point winners in the final quarter as the old tigers fell to the young pups. Best Defender: Lachy. Best Passer: Bruce. Top Scorer: Ziad MVP: Jonno
Avengers vs Sharks. Winner: Avengers 50 to 36.
Avengers streaked to a 10 point lead in the first quarter, with good shooting options and solid defence. Avengers struggled to extend their lead with Sharks taking better shots, half time saw Avengers in front by 13. The third quarter was a Cracka from the Avengers and they extended their lead out to 19:38 at three quarter time. Sharks battled till the end and dragged back to within striking distance but the accuracy of the Avengers was too much in the end. MVP: Sean Quinn
