The Max Bayliss Award, a Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla’s award, was created in honour of the most community-minded person, who helped many organisations including Rotary with his expertise and his personable nature.
Mr Bayliss gave his time freely to help in local events by way of MC (master of ceremonies), compare and auctioneer, and he was a dearly loved and respected member of the community.
After Mr Bayliss’ passing some members of Rotary felt it was appropriate to perpetuate the memory of him by creating an award for a person in the local area who has made a significant contribution to the community.
Rotarians were invited to nominate an appropriate person and the committee for the Rotary and Community Business Awards chose a candidate.
The chosen nominee is then ratified by the Rotary Club Board.
The Max Bayliss Award was first made in 2008 and was incorporated into the Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla Community and Business Awards presentation evening, which allowed the recipient to be recognised by a wider cross-section of the community and receive the award along with other members of the community and business sectors.
For 2018, Jim Mison was chosen as the best nomination from those received.
Mr Mison’s significant contribution to the community has been generous, long-standing and largely unrecognised.
Mr Mison has been a member of the Milton Show Society for 53 years, committee member for 52 years, president of the Milton Show Society for two separate terms totalling 12 years, and vice-president for 5 years.
He has also acted as chief steward for the Fruit and Vegetable section of the Milton Show for many years. Mr Mison is a member of the Milton Showground management committee, serving 12 years as its chairperson.
He has also had an involvement with the Milton Ulladulla Bulldogs rugby league club and made a significant contribution to them while serving on their board and as president for three years.
As Jim was away on the night of the Business Awards, he was presented last week with his award by the Rotary Club president Craig Saunders at the Rotary Club meeting, in the presence of his partner Barbara, Rotarian Tim Gregory who nominated him, Rotarians Wayne Fry and Dick Crouch representing the Business Award committee, and of course all other Rotarians, partners and friends.
