Starting from the Inlet we headed west towards and through the bush to a small, scenic lookout of the pristine water. From there we climbed up through the bush to the top of Matron Porter Rd and down Garside.
Once we reached Garside, it was all for one, as it seems we all took a different route to the Surf Club! Some kept on the road; others went through the golf course and back down the other side. At the surf club, the endurance runners took a right hand turn to Colliers beach and return, while the injured and unfit went the quickest way back to the start.
Darren, our guest runner from the Gold Coast, was quite confused with his directions and trying to retrace them in the car afterwards, he was totally unaware of where he’d been. However, he commented that it was good to be up early and meeting a great bunch of locals who were very happy and helpful in sending him in the right direction. There was always someone to chat with, no matter which way he looked!
Dave did some extra, extra long kilometres and we almost had the search party out, however he had decided to forgo the coffee at Playgrounds for a flop on the couch at home. Distances ranged from 10, 15, and 25km.
Well done group! It’s not too long until our Canberra goals in April, with some competing in the 10km, 21.2km, 42.2km and also the ultra 50km.
Next Sunday’s Run – February 24. Please meet at the Lake Conjola tennis courts at 6.30am for a bush/beach run with distances up to 16km.
Rats Cycling Report
Saturday, February 16, dawned as a clear and slightly cooler day - almost perfect cycling weather.
This was our first ride south on the highway, as part of the new 2019 Cycling Calendar. We started from Mountain Cycles, which did cause some confusion, however it does seem to be a popular choice, particularly for those people from Ulladulla or south that have had to ride to Milton to start for so many years.
About 10 riders made the journey south to the northside of Lake Tabourie, where after a short break we took the slightly longer route back to Duke and Co in Milton for coffee.
A big welcome to new rider Pat (recently retired to the area) and Keith (also recently retired in Canberra) but has a holiday house in Ulladulla. Both Pat’s wife Lorraine, and Keith’s wife Jenny are cyclists so we look forward to welcoming them on a ride soon as well.
Once the serious business of coffee was complete we got down to the even more serious business of voting on the final designs for the next URC cycling club kit. After some great auctioneering by Coby, tempered by Dennis’s cool head, we called for a vote and agreed a final design.
I’m just arranging for final artwork to be done and we’ll publish it for everyone’s information later this week.
Next Saturday we have our first Adventure ride for the year. We’ll start from Batemans Bay Marina at 7am and travel south via the beaches to Moruya and beyond. Approx 100km - returning to Batemans Bay by around 2pm. All welcome.
For those that want to ride locally a standard ride will still be held.
Stay safe everyone - see you next week.
