Patricia Elsie Townley was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order and disqualified from driving for three years over a charge of negligent driving occasioning death.
The 86-year-old Mollymook woman had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity at Milton Local Court on October 25, 2018.
Upon sentencing Townley, Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said the court needed to acknowledge the death of John West-Newman, 84 and how "catastrophic" his death was for his family and everyone who knew him.

"It [the case] has been described as tragic … and I agree with that," Magistrate Fleming said.
Facts tendered to the court stated Townley was exiting the Boree Street car park about 9.14am on April 4, 2018.
When she left the driveway her vehicle accelerated harshly, failing to negotiate a turn onto Boree Street.
Her vehicle travelled approximately 33 metres across both lanes and into the car park of 15 Boree Street.
The deceased was standing outside the complex near the main entry. Facts stated he hit the windscreen of the vehicle before being thrown into the glass doors of the complex.
Townley's vehicle continued through the main entry of the building and impacted with an internal wall.
West-Newman sustained serious head injuries and was conveyed to Milton Helipad, although he never regained consciousness and died before he was airlifted.
Tonwley's defence counsel Peter Ryan said in his submission that his client continues to show deep regret and remorse which she had expressed from the outset.
"A tragic case in every sense of the word," he said.
