This week saw the players take their last opportunity to play in a District Championship before the Pennant season gets underway. Two teams entered the Senior District Fours and 3 teams entered the Open District Fours . The first rounds were played at St George’s Basin where the greens although in fine condition newer running a little slower than we are used to . By the end of the first round we still had 2 teams in the running in the Open and 1 in the Seniors . Unfortunately the team skipped by Jan Winter and the team skipped by Di Rupp were knocked out in the afternoon rounds . However the team skipped by Ralda Graham progressed to Wednesday’s round at Culburra . Ralda , Maureen Fletcher , Barbara Daniels and Doreen Dickson found themselves in the semi final of the District Senior Fours playing a team from Sussex Inlet , they won and progressed to the Final where they came up against a team from Culburra . The girls started the game strongly and held off a late charge from the opposition to take out the District Senior Fours Championship 2019 . Well done ladies who now progress to Tamworth for the Playoffs along with Sandra Crimmins and Jan Winter who won the District Senior Pairs a couple of week ago .
Thursday March 7 saw a good number of bowlers come along for a game of Fours . As I was missing in action for most part of the day all I am able to report is Mildred Hughes , Lynne Jackson , Glenyce Pendlebury and Bev Lapinski were the rink winners ! Following our games of bowls we once again welcomed a group of ladies who are enthusiastically having a few lessons before they join in the socially and even perhaps advancing to compete in District events in the future.Thank you to those bowlers who stayed behind to help out the Club Coach in the afternoon .
Just a reminder Pennants start on March 19 so this week our last chance to practise and get “ in the groove “.
Mollymook Men
PENNANTS: What a difference a week can make! The three Mollymook sides lost only one game last Saturday, a nice improvement on the matches played the previous weekend. Results: the 3's at home had a 9 1/2 to 1/2 win over Lake Conjola, likewise at home the 4's had a 9/1 win over Shoalhaven Ex Servo & away at Sussex Inlet the 6's won 10/0. Well done!
CHAMPIONSHIPS: The semi-final of the Mixed Fours, played last Sunday, both games were very close over the last few ends. Al Wynter's team with third Craig Lees, Mary Adams as second & lead Shirley Boller led 15/10 against Dave Henry, Chris & Kerrie Machon & Lyn Dobell but somehow got stuck on 15 for the next 4 ends whilst Dave's lot steadily advanced to 19/15 with one end to play. Alan's team "charged" but final score was 19/17. Dave Clark's team Kaye & Gaham Smith with Janine Boyd as lead were 23/14 after the 17th but had an uncomfortable ride home as Darcy Nelson, Nola W-N, Ivan Traves & Liz Hume did a "Winx" run for home, final score 23/21. Well played all teams, final next Sunday, 1pm.
The quarter final of the Super Singles saw Terry Hill starting on 6 catch Sid Brand (3) "napping" for the first 10 ends whilst he progressed to a 19/6 lead, a challenge even too much for Sid to overcome, final score 31/18. Dave Harrison (5) found that "dark horse" Dave Bradshaw (7) was indeed very hard to catch, a 31/16 win to the latter. Paul Barnes (4) had quite a battle against his old pairs mate Geoff Watson (9) but Krusty prevailed for a 31/27 win. The fourth match saw Eric Woodburn (7) defeat Mark Sommerville (9) 31/20. The semi-final games, Terrance vs Krusty & Haggis vs "dark horse" Dave will be interesting to say the least.
SOCIAL: Wednesday triples were all played at the last minute on the synthetic, lucky rink was rink 5, I think. Friday's Open Pairs had 36 bowlers contest the jackpot then at $240 but it was not won by Darcy & Mark. Paul Barnes & Krusty, pals again, won the $120 prize with +7 on a count-back against Dave Bradshaw & Nick King ( who actually won 23/18), Mark's Shout went to Dave Clark & Dennis; the KENO voucher was invested wisely by Johns Paul & Wilton.
Milton-Ulladulla Men
The first day of pennants for this year got off to a fairly inauspicious start this Saturday with the number two’s picking up 1/2 a point at Lake Conjola; the five’s playing at home went down to Sussex R.S.L. ; the sixes were also at home against Mollymook and came out winning two rinks + a draw to end the day 91/2 to 1/2; and finally the sevens went right down to the wire against Greenwell Point before finally going down by a point on the last end. Some better news was had last weekend when the district triples semis and finals were played and we had a fairly good weekend, although the teams did not quite get the overall results they desired. In the seniors, our team of Mick Duprez, John Cleverly and Mick Raftery were beaten in the semis by the eventual winners, and in the open category the trio of Dave Munt, Charlie Fucile and Bob Boyd got to the final after playing some very impressive bowls only to go down by a point which would really rot your socks. Still, well done fellas you have done the club proud. Sunday saw the second round of pennant and a little bit better results for the club, but unfortunately not for the number two side who played Nowra at home. The game waxed and waned with both sides not being able to make a decisive break but eventually it did happen with Nowra edging ahead on all three rinks late in the game to run out winners 10-0. Over at Culburra, the fives had a really good result with a 9-1 win with some very competitive bowls being played by our players; just down the road at the Basin, the sixes had a very comprehensive win against S.G.B. to the tune of 10-0, and the sevens added salt to the wound by having a top result by winning 8-2 on the back of a rampaging four of John Jamieson, Ken Coman, Graham Cooper and Nelson Wallace who won 28-13.
Results for the week:- Wed. social:- winners:- Ben Ireland/ Pommie Dave?; runners up:_ Alan Clark/ Charlie Fucile/ John Taber. Fri. social:- overall winners:- R.A.Fuller/ Nino Barca 2 wins +18; runners up:- Ruggers/ Dave Munt 2 wins +14; 1st game winners:- Greg Wray/Tony Micallef +11; 2nd game winners:- the Cattleys +9.
This week saw a lot of players down south representing our club at Paynesville’s week of bowls, and so numbers were down a bit for our social games. There was one game played in the club pairs where we saw Jock Robertson & Mike Frame have a good win over the pairing of Dennis Ogilvie and Kevin Baxter on Sunday afternoon in typical flukey wind conditions. Meanwhile, back down in Victoria at Paynesville our club had a very successful week with overall winners in a number of categories. To start the ball rolling, Paul Best,Rob Cattley & Jo Cattley took out the open triples on Tuesday; then Toni Hanley backed that up by winning the ladies triples on Wednesday, followed by John Power playing a blinder to win the very competitive men’s two bowls triples on Thursday and then to top it all off, Mick Sawicki came through on Friday to take out the mixed pairs.
Results for the week:- Wed. social:- winners:- Fred Foster/ Paul the Python/ Neil Hall; runners up:- Frank Ambrose/ Greg Geering/ Dave Bromley. Fri. social:- overall winners:- Ian Connelly/ Ray Murrell 2 wins +16; runners up:- Greg Wray/ Tony Micallef 2 wins +15; 1st game winners:- Ron Amos/ Bob Boyd +9; 2nd game winners:- Bill Harris/ Dick McLean +10. Sat. social:- winners:- Harvey Wootton/ Chris Godwin; runners up:- John Bohle/ Brad Patterson. Turkey trots:- winners:- Ken Metcalf/ Simon Read/ Paul the Python; runners up:- Gordon Young/ Fred Foster/ Dave Bromley;(that’s been a good week Fred & Dave); lucky door Alec Venn( welcome back Alec); bog trophy:- Jeff Noonan.
Third round of pennant happened this week with not a great deal to celebrate, although the five’s had a really good win of 9-1 away against Greenwell Pt. on the back of a very good win from Ron Hanley’s four; then there were the 6’s who went down 1-9 against Berry away from home; and finally the seven’s who played at home and also went down 1-9 against Sussex. So we need to string together a few good wins over all grades to give ourselves a good chance of winning a district flag. Besides all this, there were a few games of club pairs played this week, and the results are as follows: Paul James/ Chris Godwin def. Brad Patterson/ Dave Munt; Dave Chandler/ Paul Collins def. Graham Robbo/ Stan Croker; Brian Openshaw/ Xavier Micallef def. Bruce Pendlebury/ Ron Amos; Rod Potts/ Adam Best def. Dick McLean/ Bill Harris; and Charlie Fucile/ Graeme Carriage def. Col Jamieson/ Rob Cattley.
Results for the week:- Wed. social:- winners:- Scott Grainger/ Ron Amos/ Rob Morton; runners up:- Neil Smith/ Harvey Wootton/ Ian Findlay. Fri. social:- overall winners:- Charlie Fucile/ Gary Kiff 2 wins +33; runners up:- Jeannie Thompson/ Ros Jamieson 2 wins +20; 1st game winners:- Phill Grabham/ Kevin Lydiate +13; 2nd game winners:- Don Edwards/ Nelson Wallace +17. Turkey trots:- winners:- Jock Robertson/ Mick Cameron/ Alan Walsh; runners up:- Bill Bellamy/ Nathan Power; lucky door:- John Bishenden; bog trophy:- Fred Foster.

The winning rink of Bob Field, Val Brady and Jack Field took home the fresh chickens while the lucky losers, Alan Hayman, Judy Henderson and Peter Champion got half their green fees back. Raffle winners included: Harry Williams, Sue Dent, Alan Hayman, Diane Field, Jack Field, Bob Field and Judy Henderson.
