Imagine all the jobs you do for your children and family on a daily basis.
You're a chef, a taxi driver, a nurse, cleaner, teacher and personal assistant. And all that in addition to the job for which you're actually getting paid.
How much do you think all of that work is worth?
Well in Bega it amounts to a salary in the order of $481,800 a year!
Online blog Funky Pigeon has looked into salary data of every city and town in Australia to find out the comparison of a parent's potential salary by location for the "jobs" a parent does.
The team identified eight tasks that parents spend their time doing for their kids, and found the closest professional equivalent of that task - Chef; Cleaner; Taxi Driver; Teacher; Personal Assistant; Launderette; Nurse and Psychologist.
They then gathered wage and salary data for these eight jobs (from an Australian jobs site), and did so for every state and territory in Australia, including over 300 individual towns and cities across the country.
By entering the number of hours you estimate spending on each of those tasks in any given week, Funky Pigeon's calculator can give you your "Parent Salary".
For example, if you spend seven hours a week cooking for your child, then over the 52 weeks of a year you'd spend a total of 364 hours cooking. And if the average wage for a chef in your town is $25 per hour, then the estimated salary for just that one job would be $9100.
Across NSW the average "parent salary" is $486,777.60 based on a standard number of hours for each of the eight tasks.
Using those same time-on-task estimates, Bega's parents should be earning $481,843.20 a year, slightly below the state average.
Meanwhile, across the region, other parent salary estimates include $467,980.80 at Ulladulla; $471,936.00 at Kiama; $490,022.40 at Goulburn; and $487,238.40 on the Southern Highlands.
Parents at Campbelltown could feel the most hard done by, topping the Funky Pigeon chart for NSW locations with an estimated "salary" of $589,651.20.
So how much do you think you're worth? Priceless would be our guess.
