While a series of physical roadshows had been anticipated, in light of social distancing practices introduced to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Laing O'Rourke is implementing a number of changes to the ways it communicates and interacts with bushfire impacted communities.

"Providing opportunities for local contractors to be involved in the project is one really important way it can continue to help rebuild local economies across the Shoalhaven region," a Laing O'Rourke spokesperson said.

"We have been out in the community over the last few weeks seeking assistance from local, qualified contractors for the clean-up, but obviously with the impact of COVID-19 we've had to pioneer some different ways of communicating with local subcontractors."

Wednesday night's online session will give Laing O'Rourke the chance to explain the clean-up program in more detail and provide an overview of the opportunities that exist for local contractors to become involved in locations across the Shoalhaven region.

"Already we have local teams on the ground helping us to clear properties in places like Conjola and Kangaroo Valley, but there is still more work to go around," the spokesperson said.

Shoalhaven City Council bushfire recovery co-ordinator Vince Di Pietro said council was pleased to be working closely with Laing O'Rourke to support local businesses.

"The bushfires had a devastating impact on local economies and small businesses across Shoalhaven and it's great to be able to work with Laing O'Rourke to provide as many opportunities for local businesses to be involved in the clean-up as possible," Mr Di Pietro said.

"Not only is the clean-up an essential step towards moving on for our people and our communities, but it is also playing an important role in helping small businesses to rebuild.

"I encourage all qualified local subbies to join us on Wednesday night and register."

Wednesday night's Shoalhaven briefing will be a pilot of the new online format, and Laing O'Rourke is planning to conduct similar briefings in other parts of the South Coast and right across the state in the coming weeks.

The types of contractors Laing O'Rourke will need assistance from include demolition and clean up companies, plant equipment and traffic management businesses, hygienists and truck operators.
