This safety issue has been brewing for several weeks following the tragic incident involving 14-year-old Zoie Bell.
Concerned resident Wes Holmes started a petition pushing for safety work for the St Vincent Street intersection.
Mr Holmes and those who supported the petition were clear in what they wanted - traffic lights.
Shoalhaven City Council responded by releasing its plans to improve the area around the high school.
The Milton Ulladulla Times contacted council and Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips and asked if they would support a request made by a member of Zoie's family.
The family wants - "everyone to push for a scramble crossing which stops traffic in all directions so large numbers of people can cross in any direction safely".
Council will not be making any further comments on this matter. Council is standing by a statement issued last week on the issue and here is what council released to the media on Friday.
Mrs Phillips was also asked to support the request made by Zoie's family.
"I am pleased to see council moving forward with some interim protections for this intersection," Mrs Phillips said.
"I absolutely support the community in their calls to make this road safe for our kids.
"We need to make sure the community's voice is heard throughout this process and I encourage everyone who has ideas about this to make a submission to the council."
State Member for the South Coast, Shelley Hancock, in a previous statement, said she would support expert opinion following investigation of the site and accident and recommendation from experts in traffic and pedestrian safety around schools.
Meanwhile, Mr Holmes' petition only need 57 more signatures to reach its goal of 5000 supporters.
