The walks come in all forms - from easy, to hard, to extremely hard, and even in the "no way am I going to do that" category.
Damian McGill from the Milton Ulladulla Times and his son Harry have been out walking of late and for an "Our Places" story wanted to talk about a recent walk they did.
Harry and Damian saw the Lake Conjola to Narrawallee Inlet walk in the "Best Bush Coast and Village Walks of the Shoalhaven'' written by Gillian and John Souter.
They liked what they read and off they went for a leisurely 16 kilometre walk one Saturday morning.
"Some days you wake up and just want to walk - not think about too much - just walk," Damian said.
"We started in the village, walked down the foreshore and past the caravan park but you can drive closer down if you want."
Damian goes on to explain about the walk
"Then the walk takes you along Conjola Beach and walking on sand gives you a nice workout," he said.
"The rolling surf and the glorious scenery are other parts of the walk that make it so appealing.
"However, we were out of luck and did not see any whales - maybe next time."
After the stretch on the beach and sand, you come to Buckleys Point.
Some "rock hoping" is needed to get over the point but it's not hard and the weather-worn rocks are amazing to see - it was also a good spot for a quick break.
You then hit more sand on Buckleys Beach as you stroll towards Narrawallee Creek.
"We followed the directions in Gillian and John's book and moved our way near the inlet and headed towards the Mangrove Walk," Damian added.
The Mangrove Walk section is your more traditional bush-walk.
The terrain was flat and the walk was pretty easy.
"However, there seemed to be lots of sticks on the track - we did the walk not long after the region was hit by strong gusts of wind which possibly resulted in so many sticks [big and small] being on the track," Damian said.
"The scenery and vegetation on the track were nice - we had it all to ourselves and did not see any other walkers.
"We then found a nice spot near the creek to have lunch - just beautiful.
"After lunch, we continued on our merry way and came to a road - I am pretty sure it was Narrawallee Creek Road.
"We did not go up the road but headed down towards the beach [we could hear the surf pounding] and ended up at a lookout and what appeared to be a carpark."
The lookout was a great spot for a pic or two.
"As we headed down a fun little walking track as we ended back on Conjola Beach to complete our walk," Damian said.
"The water on the lake was beautiful - so maybe pack your swimmers and finish the day off with a refreshing dip.
"Would we do this walk again? Yes."
