The changes which came into effect on November 5 mean it is legal to cultivate and manufacture medicinal cannabis in Australia.
People are now able to apply for a licence to grow their own cannabis crop, however, it is still illegal to use or grow marijuana for recreational purposes.
“In 2015 the CWA voted in favour of talking about it and we couldn't be more proud,” Milton Ulladulla CWA secretary Sandy Aureli said.
“I think it would shock everyone that we advocate its use. Maybe everyone will start thinking the CWA isn't the dusty old organisation people thought it was.
“We are thinking about and talking about current affairs and coming up with ideas like that.”

Milton Ulladulla CWA say the legislative change has brought to light the benefits of medicinal cannabis and hope their advocacy will help breakdown the stigma associated with its use.
“People are finding that is has tremendous benefits,” Sandy said.
“It needs to be looked upon as it being a positive thing rather than just a drug.
“The licenses will make it into a proper legal thing that stops it being an undercover operation and will help control the quality, price and availability.
“It will stop people from getting into trouble by growing it when they shouldn't. If they could grow it legally then they wouldn't be breaking the law.”
Milton Ulladulla CWA member Joan Clark also supports the change in law, saying if used properly the medicinal benefits of cannabis need to be made accessable to those who need.
“We are behind it 100 per cent,” she said.
“It's working isn't it for epilepsy isn't it?
“I've seen the bad side of drug taking but for medicinal purposes it's such a help and so warranted.”
