A fundraiser has been organised in memory Kieren Thomas-Thompson, the eight-year-old Mollymook boy who died on July 17.
Kieren was battling a rare form of brain cancer. His family relocated to Sydney just weeks before his death to be closer to medical facilities and to give their other children more stability at school.
His cousin Liam Thomas was in the process of organising the fundraiser before Kieren died.
He has decided to proceed with the event despite the fact its meaning will be very different to what he originally intended while Kieren was alive.
“It will be more heart felt now,” Liam said.
“We plan to have 10-15 minutes of reflection time at the start of the night for people to remember Kieren.
“The night will be in his memory.”
Money raised will be split between Kieren’s family, the Ronald McDonald House in Westmead and brain cancer research.
Another goal of the night is to raise awareness about brain cancer.
The fundraiser is being supported by the Cronulla Sharks and Paul Gallen. Paul has supported Kieren and his family through the past couple of months, paying tribute to Kieren on the field by writing Kieren’s name on his arm during State of Origin.
The Sharks have donated a 2016 signed jersey to help with the fundraising.
It will be held on August 20 at the Sharkies Leagues Club in Cronulla. The cost will be $80 per person. This includes a two course meal and a raffle ticket.
The night will also feature trivia, a silent auction and raffles.
