It’s a boost in health services directly attributed to state government funding, according to South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.
This latest crop of graduates will join 65 doctor interns, who secured positions across the region recently. However, the battle for maternity services at Milton Hospital continues.
“I am delighted to welcome the 20 graduates to our neck of the woods ... I am still determined however to continue to advocate on behalf of the Southern Shoalhaven community for the enhancement of maternity services at Milton Hospital,” Mrs Hancock said.
“That fight is not over yet and I will continue to work with the local community and the Local Health District to find a safe solution that will see maternity services enhanced at Milton Hospital. Around the clock, 365 days a year, our nurses and midwives are on the front line of the NSW health system providing care to patients and support to their families.”
The funding will also allow for the creation of a new position – Older Persons Mental Health Clinician – assigned to the district, as part of a $2.4 million boost for Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) services.
“The addition of the clinician means older people living with mental illness and their families will receive improved care locally, better access to services and importantly more specialist assessment,” Mrs Hancock said.
The state is also funding a second staff specialist in palliative care to enhance consultation services for people in hospitals, their homes and aged care facilities.
