The Ulladulla Ngulla NAIDOC Week Festival will be held at the Ulladulla Civic Centre on Friday, July 13 from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Entry is free with live music and events on throughout the day.
The event will celebrate the local Koori culture and feature a welcome to country and Aboriginal art display.
Local Aboriginal Land Council project manager Leanne Barford will complete murals with preschoolers in the region in the lead up to the event.
“I am doing a collaborative Aboriginal mural with the preschools, which we will begin painting them next Tuesday. I am hoping to find the mural a permanent home in the community for display,” she said.
A traditional possum skin cloak is also being made for the occasion.
“This is an old traditional practice of the Aboriginal women living on the South East Coast NSW,” Mrs Barford said.
“It is the first community cloak made here in many, many years. It will be displayed as part of the Ngulla NAIDOC Festival.”
