The Australian Border Force's new vessel, the 12.4-metre 'Lord Howe Island' and its crew was taking in the sights and sounds of the 63rd Blessing of the Fleet Festival while docked in Ulladulla Harbour.
The new port, harbour and coastal vessels ensure ABF officers have the right assets to maintain a presence across the 2100 kilometres of NSW coastline, with an enhanced ability to deploy and respond rapidly to maritime threats.
Wollongong District Office district manager Greg Milton said the boat was powered by three 350 HP engines and was capable of patrolling shallow waterways to the open ocean, in all conditions.
"There are all kinds of surveillance equipment on board, radar, infrared, [the] latest equipment available," Mr Milton said.
"It's about eight months old, it's worth about a million dollars and will do about 35 knots. The crew will break on this boat before the boat will break."
This boat is based in Sydney and patrols along the NSW coast. It is used to support officers in Sydney as well as Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Port Kembla and Eden.
Over the past 18 months more than four tonnes of illicit narcotics have been intercepted aboard small and medium vessels.
ABF operates Border Watch, an online portal that enables the community to report suspicious behaviour relating to border protection and customs offences.
