The Ulladulla Runners and Triathletes' regular Sunday run on January 19 was in support of those affected by the bushfires. A group of 18 runners and walkers participated in the virtual Relief Run (reliefrun.com.au) on behalf of the Australian Red Cross covering a distance of 21.1km each.

At the very early time of 5.30am a group of eight walkers left the Lions Park at Burrill Lake and headed north along the highway, down to the Mollymook Surf Club, up to Narrawallee and return. A little while later another couple of runners followed in their footsteps along the same route happy to maintain a comfortable running pace. Yet another three runners moving at a more significant pace ate up the out-and-back distance in no time at all.
In the meantime a pack of four lady runners left from Narrawallee doing the opposite route and eager to just complete the distance! We were all thankful for the relatively cool, smoke-free conditions even though the humidity demanded that we took on plenty of water. Of course there was cross over of the groups along the way and as usual plenty of banter, encouragement and the obligatory photographs.
Our walkers turned out to be super smart in planning their route and managed to consume coffee at the halfway point at Hello Huey at the Inlet and then after the walk at Mavericks in Ulladulla. For our lady runners it was a great coffee and Anzac biscuits under the trees with (finally) great views of the Inlet.
One of our lady RATS Nicole Rattenbury completed her 21.1km virtual fund-raising run in the Blue Mountains. In a total time of 4hrs and 40 minutes Nicole ran on a single muddy trail in constant rain and fog with apparently thousands of stairs. She mentioned it was heaps of fun and really quite beautiful!
It was a great day for us all allowing us to contribute much-needed funds to the bushfire appeal and to regain some normality back into our lives.
