To the disappointment of many of the students at St Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School one of these events was our annual cross country carnival, usually held in March.
The staff decided that we didn't want the children to miss out on these events that have become an integral part of Primary School culture for decades.
On Tuesday the June 2, the students competed in a 'Cross Country Championships' during their weekly class sport lesson.
With parents watching from the school oval fence (maintaining social distancing guidelines) the students all enjoyed participating in their race.
Due to restrictions all Diocesan level and further levelled competitions have been cancelled for 2020.
It did not deter many of the students from performing to the best of their abilities and showing determination and perseverance.
The school will be holding an 'Athletics Championships' where students will be competing in the 200m, 800m, long jump, shot put and discus events.
These events will be held under much the same conditions with the focus being on enjoyment, participation and friendly competition.
Mini Vinnies at St Mary's Star of the Sea Primary School
The St Mary's Mini Vinnies team is a group of primary school students who get together regularly to help those in need within our school, local and global community.
The group address social justice issues and live their faith through action.
After a break, our enthusiastic and proactive Mini Vinnies are back in action this term.
Last week they made cards for the residents of the Sarah Claydon Aged Care community, in an attempt to lift their spirits and brighten their day.
Meanwhile, the marketing team prepared flyers for our upcoming Soup-er hero day.
This year we will honour the many 'superheroes' in our community such as those who fought fires, healed the sick, provided for the poor and held the hands of the lonely (Not all heroes wear capes...).
Homemade pumpkin soup, fresh from our gardens will be cooked and sold with all proceeds going to the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.
