A Transport for NSW spokesperson said a speed limit review was carried out on the Princes Highway from 210 metres north of Green Street to just south of Deering Street.
"The review found a speed limit reduction will provide consistency to similar town centres and will address community safety concerns," the spokesperson said.
"As a result, the speed limit on this 910 metre section of the Princes Highway will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.
"This reduction will also improve safety for pedestrians. We want to see every road user make it to their destination safely."
The new speed limit will be in affect from Monday June 29

Work to install the new speed limit signs will take place from Monday 22 to Monday 29 June.
Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions and road users are asked to follow the directions of signs.
Over a five year period to 30 June 2018, there were 16 crashes in this vicinity with 11 of these resulting in injuries.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits.
