Hailing from Jervis Bay, the 24-year-old oncology nurse told the Daily Telegraph she often witnesses confronting scenes while working on the frontline.
This has helped put into perspective that family is one of the most important things in life.
As such, Phillips hopes to start her own family one day and is the reason she decided to sign up to contend on the show.
"Throughout my career as an oncology nurse, I have seen couples battle through the sickness and health that they vow to do on their wedding day," she told the Daily Telegraph.
"Within that there are many challenges and milestones that they overcome together and this strengthens their love and their bond. This has definitely inspired me to try and find a relationship like that for myself."
Mackenzie is one of the six girls contending for the love of crop and sheep Farmer Sam Messina.
The 25-year-old Canowindra farmer is the youngest of the quintet of farmers looking for love.
The first eight episodes of the program have already aired, and things are looking good for Mackenzie, as the pair appear to be hitting it off.
In the latest episode, the girls visited Sam's farm, with his mother and brother commenting they see a spark between the two.
You can watch Farmer Wants a Wife on Channel 7 Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 7pm.
