Mollymook's disabled surf day set to February

The good news is that there will be smiles on dials but it won't be until late February.

The Disabled Surf Association [DSA] South Coast committee recently met to make a determination on the Mollymook event.

Group president Ian Picton was happy to report that the chance of a Mollymook event being held looked strong.

"We just did not want to miss out and it's a special day down there for all," Mr Picton said.

He said they just had to finalise a few arrangements with Shoalhaven City Council but the event looked swell for Saturday, February 26.

The group had planned to host the Mollymook event in November.

However, COVID-19 uncertainty and restrictions meant November had to be ruled out.

Mr Picton said social distancing requirements would be hard to manage as the volunteers have to get close to the surfers when they hit the water.

Normally, Mr Picton and his team would have been down in the area visiting schools to get volunteers.

With schools in various stages of lockdown of late, visiting schools to get volunteers was not possible.

The DSA, early in 2022, will be contacting the schools to start getting their volunteers ready

There will also be a training night for new volunteers the Friday before the event.

Mr Picton said the training only takes two hours and then the volunteers would be all set to hit the waves.
