Unit commander Ken Lambert said, the steel frame work started going up on Tuesday and "all things going according to plan", would be completed next week.
"It is wonderful to see the structure of the new unit taking shape," he said.
"Sometime in February the near completed building will be handed over to Marine Rescue.
"Full completion is planned for Easter 2015.
"I can speak on behalf of all members who have continued their vigilance with continuous 24 hour radio watch and all other operations plus duties to continue base operations, it is indeed a positive time that will boost morale."
