An application, submitted under the blackspot program by Shoalhaven City Council in 2016, was knocked back, however in August 2017 the state government approved the project under the NSW Safer Roads program.
Funds were allocated to allow the project to be completed in the 2018-19 year.
“In response to the crash history council submitted an application under the Australian Government blackspot program for a local road roundabout to be built at the intersection of Mitchell Parade and Donlan Road south,” a council spokesperson said.
“There is no detailed program at this time however the community can anticipate delivery in the 2018-19 financial year period.”
Recent community consultation included notification to the Ulladulla and Districts Community Forum and discussion with the directly affected property owners regarding project funding approval.
“This followed earlier consultation when the project was first nominated in 2016 and traffic unit staff attended a forum meeting in 2016 to discuss the project, including a site inspection with Jan Gregory and Leigh Maloney from the CCB,” a council spokesperson said.
Apart from resolving traffic congestion at the intersection, the project is anticipated to provide the broader benefits of speed reduction and improvements to pedestrian safety.
