Residents were shocked when a fence went around the site and a for sale sign was put up on the land once set aside for future educational purposes.
Mr Field said questions need to be asked and answers given to the community.
"I've written to the NSW Education Minister seeking an explanation about future school planning for the Milton/Ulladulla community," Mr Field said.
"Many in the community feel blindsided by a number of recent NSW Government decisions that risk leaving our community without sufficient primary and secondary education facilities into the future.
"This includes the imminent auction of Education Department land at Garside Road in Mollymook - land needed for future school expansion in the area."

Mr Field said a growing area needs suitable education facilities.
"The claims by the minister there is "no significant demand for additional primary and secondary school teaching spaces in Milton and Ulladulla" don't pass muster," he said.
"There is a need right now for new and expanded primary and secondary facilities. That need is only increasing as our region experiences rapid growth."
He has asked the Minister to do the following:-
- Halt the sale of the land at Garside Road while the department reassesses current and future education needs for the region
- Make public the analysis being used to assess future education needs in our region.
- Hold a public meeting in the area to explain to the community the Department's rationale in regard to future educational facilities
- Should the Government choose to proceed with the sale of the land at Garside Road, to work with the community to ensure the land remains in public ownership and as public space for the community
- Engage in a genuine consultation with the community about the future of the Shoalhaven Anglican School site.
