What a great way to end the school holidays with some great footy last weekend. Thanks to all Doggies families who made sure the players where available for all games played over the school holidays, including the late notice middle weekend. Being there for your team mates is what team sport is about.
In January this year, the club sadly lost life member Lyn Anderson. Lyn fought a very long and brave battle with cancer and, as many in the community would know, was also not only a proud and passionate Doggie but also very passionate about raising funds for cancer research.
The club made the decision earlier in the year that we would hold a fundraiser day in Lyn’s honour. We hoped to be able to hold this on a weekend when all teams were scheduled to play at home, however with the wet weather earlier in the season this was not possible so we have decided to hold it on Saturday, July 29, the last weekend of regular competition for our Minis, Mods and GLT. We are aware that not all teams will be at home that weekend, however we encourage everyone if possible to come along sometime during the day to help us raise as much money as possible for the cause. We will have further details about the day on our Facebook page and in next week’s Doggies wrap.
In the second week of the school holidays we saw six Doggies travel to Newcastle to take part in the PCYC Nation of Origins competition as part of the Yuin Snakes. Our representatives were Georgie Fitzpatrick, Ella Conlon and Ally England from our girls league tag tam, however this time they were playing tackle footy coached by Talia Attfield from Bomaderry. The boys representatives were Jarred Hendrie, Luke Millard and Riley Wooden, coached by our own Funnel. The competition was held over two days with the boys blitzing the competition in their division on the first day, not dropping a game. The girls only dropped one game which saw both teams progress to the tough final series on the Thursday. Uunfortunately both teams went down in the semi finals. Well done to all who participated and the supporters who made the trip. We would also like to thank Ulladulla Ex-Servos, who sponsored the teams in conjunction with the Shoalhaven PCYC.
We have received confirmation that the Minis end of season gala day will go ahead and are to be played on Sunday, July 30. The venues are yet to be confirmed along with the draw, however this information will be available on our website and Facebook page as soon as it is finalised.
The club’s canteen for Eli has raised over $700 for the Chatfield family which we have now donated through Eli’s GoFundMe page. We would like to thank everyone who has donated goods for sale.
Training shorts are now in stock, they are $30 per pair and we have a large variety of sizes. If you are interested in purchasing any items please contact Sharon on 0406 977 101.
Coaches, trainers and leaguesafes please ensure you have your photo ID card and armband on at the commencement of your game or you will be asked to leave the designated field area.
For those teams playing at home each weekend: If your team is participating in the first game we ask that the parents and supporters assist in setting up the fields and the teams that are involved in the last games of the day that parents and supporters assist in packing up the fields and returning all items neatly to the sheds. Each team is required to provide two parents to assist in the canteen and on the BBQ in the hour before their game.
Our weekly meat raffles at the Ex-Servos continue to surge along and this week we ask for the parents and families of the U13s to come along and support and assist us with the raffles. Ticket sales commence at 6pm, with the draw for the 40+ meat trays commencing at 7pm. By supporting our raffles you in turn are supporting our major sponsors of Ulladulla Ex-Servos and Sea Salt Restaurant. The club has lots to offer on Friday night apart from our raffles: there is the kids club, great value meals in the Sea Salt Restaurant, members badge draw and Friday night footy live on the big screen.
We would like to remind all parents and supporters that our fields are smoke free venues, there is no smoking permitted at anytime within the gated area. We would also like to remind everyone that there is no parking within the fields at anytime unless you have gained permission from the committee.
