Two people have died in a two car accident on the Princes Highway, south of Nowra.
About 5.20am on Friday (February 23), two vehicles collided head on the Princes Highway at Jerrawangala, about 10km south of the Sussex Inlet turnoff.
Police media says the drivers of both vehicles, a man and a woman, died at the scene.
They were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
The Princes Highway remains closed in both direction and police have urged motorists to avoid the area or delay their trip.
Diversions are in place – southbound motorists are diverted on to Turpentine Road, Braidwood Road, Nerriga Road and Kings Highway to return to the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.
Northbound is the same in reverse.
This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being on site.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
Police from the South Coast Police District have started an investigation into the incident and have urged anyone with information to contact police at Nowra on 4421 9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Princes Highway blocked by serious accident south of Sussex Inlet turnoff
The Princes Highway, south of Nowra, is blocked in both directions after a serious accident at Jerrawangala.
Just before 5.30am two cars collided just south of Sussex Inlet Road.
Emergency services are on the scene, with at this stage official reports being two people are trapped with critical injuries.
Diversions are in place – southbound motorists are diverted on to Turpentine Road, Braidwood Road, Nerriga Road and Kings Highway to return to the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.
Northbound is the same in reverse.
Allow extra travel time, possibly up to an hour to complete the journey.
This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being on site.
The highway is expected to be closed for a considerable amount of time.
