Shoalhaven lawnmower rev heads are preparing to start their engines for their first event since COVID arrived.
The Showmow Racing Australia group will be gathering at their new track, Bomaderry Race Track, on February 28 for their start up round.
Club member Taylor Lynch, who has been involved with Showmow Racing for 11 years, encourages everyone who is interested to come along.
"The first round will be in February, but this is just the start-up round for everybody. There's quite a lot of people who haven't raced before so we're just going to be doing a lot of teaching on that day," she said.
"It's not very hard to get involved and it's a very cheap sport for all of the rev heads out there.
This first round will include races for Motiv8, which is Showmow's disability arm of the club.
"We have hydro mowers which are very low power so kids with disabilities can come and race. Then they have their own championships as well," said Lynch.
Before COVID, members of the club raced at agricultural shows. Now, the lawnmower enthusiasts have their own race track and are feeling ready to begin their championships.
"This is the first time that we've had a headquarters track which will be the Bomaderry Race Track next to the Paper Mill. We've never had a designated track, we've always just raced at shows," Ms Lynch said.
"I think the break actually gave everyone a bit of a rest and now everyone is coming out of their shell from COVID...everyone's reinvigorated and ready to get back into a community environment.
"We're quite excited to have our own track. That way people can get more practice and it's a lot safer to train people before we can go to shows when they get back into action."
The club race in different divisions, which includes juniors, C class, modified and super modified.
"C class is our entry level class, modified means you can add a little more to the mowers, which kind of resemble go karts," explained Lynch.
"Then the super modified class can have a motorbike engine in their mower."
The championship races will run monthly across the year, with the first official round kicking off Sunday 28 March.
Anyone is able to race from the age of eight and up.
