Charles Kanake, aka Mr Barista, is the new friendly face at Stuart Bros Deli.
Charles is a young man with Down syndrome but he doesn't let that stop him achieving goals and putting smiles on customers' faces.
When cafe owners Dorothy Hodgson, Wendy Stuart and Shaun O'Rourke met Charles and discovered he had completed a TAFE NSW Café Skills training they couldn't resist offering him a chance to be a part of their team.
He wanted to be the best he could be and enrolled to get the skills he needed to get ahead.
"This is my first job as a barista and I absolutely love it," he said.
"I'm interested in coffee and I enjoy getting to know the people. My teacher Deb, taught me a lot about making good coffee and she showed me quite a few industry tips."
His favourite coffee to brew is a skinny flat white and is always in early for his Thursday and Friday morning shifts.
He said the customers compliment him on his coffees.
"They've given me the nickname of Mr Barista."
According to café part-owner Dorothy, Charles has his own regulars who visit the Ulladulla café for one of his coffees.
"As a small business we have created an environment for people to gain real world experience," she said.
"In the framework of NDIS we were able to enlist some support through workplace mentor Hannah Wyatt, who worked alongside Charles."
Apart from brewing, Charles loves using the cash register, EFTPOS and helping with stock, pricing.
Hannah praised Charles' skills, friendliness and eagerness around the workplace.
"He makes a fantastic coffee," she said.
Dorothy said a number of organisations had worked together to help Charles achieve his employment goal.
"TAFE NSW offered the flexibility to complete the training at times that suited us and NDIS Uniting Local Area Coordinator Juliana Hoy was a great support.
"TAFE NSW Hospitality Teacher Debbie Pakis did a fabulous job of updating and assessing Charles's café and customer service skills."
Ms Pakis previously taught Charles in a café skills short course and said he was passionate about his work, loved coffee and was good with people.
"He makes very good coffee, he has terrific texturing technique, excellent hygiene and very good customer service skills," Ms Pakis said.
"Charles enrolled in a Certificate II Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways and we were able to offer the hands-on training and conduct his assessments in the cafe."
